Spinal Decompression Studies

"Spinal Decompression results showed that 86% of 219 patients who completed the therapy reported immediate resolution of their symptoms while 84% remained pain free for 90 days post treatment." (1) The American Journal of Pain Management reported "good to excellent relief  in 86% of patients with herniated discs, with back pain and sciatica symptoms being relieved.  Good to excellent results were also obtained in 75% of patients with facet syndrome." (2)

The Journal of Neurosurgery reported results stating that
"the pressure within
the disc was reduced to neative levels (-100 to -160 mmHg) following spinal decompression." (3)

Degenerative disc disease is a term used to describe a disc that has become unhealthy due to an injury, chronic spinal misalignment or abnormal stress placed upon the spine. When a disc becomes unhealthy it loses its ability support the weight and stress places upon it by the rest of the body. The disc essentially becomes dehydrated therefore causing it to degenerate over time.  The American Journal of Pain Management reported “good to excellent relief  in 86% of patients with herniated discs, with back pain and sciatica symptoms being relieved.  Good to excellent results were also obtained in 75% of patients with facet syndrome.”  All patients who receive Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy are also prescribed a

series of rehabilitative exercises and physiotherapy designed to strengthen the muscles surrounding the injured site to provide stability and aid with the healing processes.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

Non- Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy has proven itself to be very effective in the treatment of low back pain and neck pain. It is very effective in treating

cases where the patient is experiencing symptoms related to a disc bulge or
herniation.

Distractive forces are used with Non- Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy to relieve weight-bearing pressures on the discs throughout the spine. This gentle pulling mechanism combined with the relaxation phases of the treatment allow a process called “imbibition” to take place. Imbibition is the pumping action that takes
place with body movement and it is the way healthy discs receive proper nutrition and hydration. The treatment consists of several cycles of distraction and relaxation lasting approximately twenty minutes while the patient lies comfortably on his/her back.

Patient Testimonials

I am a 69 year old active woman.  However, I began to realize I was becoming limited in my activities and Dr. Derek at Totty Chiropractic of Mt. Juliet changed that for me.  After completing his recommended treatment of Spinal Decompression for my lower back I am now pain free and feel so much better!  I can now travel without any back pain!

I have a bulging disc and have had pain for a few months.  Nothing helped relieve the pain until I began Spinal Decompression treatments with Dr. Totty.  By the fourth treatment the pain was gone!!  I am continuing with the decompression treatments to keep the pain from coming back and would recommend it to anyone.

I had lower back pain, leg pain and leg numbness due to multiple compressed discs.  Dr. Totty worked with me over a period of three weeks to correct my back and disc issues and reduced my pain and numbness with each visit.  Before treatment, I had to stay on my back most of the day to relieve the pain.  After three weeks, I am back up and moving about as normal.

Our doctors have thoroughly enjoyed the implementation of Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression in the treatment of disc-related disorders of the cervical and lumbar spine.

"We can't imagine practicing without this treatment.  So many people have been able to avoid surgery and continue doing what they love."
